EX-STUDENT Bella Penfold was one of Simon Cowell’s chosen contestants to get through to The X Factor live shows during Sunday’s (7 Oct) episode.
After being chosen as Simon’s golden buzzer performance Bella, who studied performing arts at Harlow College, was guaranteed a spot in judges’ houses.
Before she performed at his Malibu residence, Simon asked Bella about her ambition.
She replied: “My ambition is obviously to become a singer, but within that to become an advocate for change, whatever that means to a person. For me that’s gone from being so low to doing something I love and really appreciating life more.”
Bella also revealed she had recently gotten a tattoo of her song choice, stating: “I got it tattooed on my neck a couple of days ago, but I put it on my neck just in case I don’t get through, so I don’t have to look at it again.”
The 19-year-old sung and rapped ‘Same Love’ by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ft. Mary Lambert to an audience of music industry experts, including American songwriter Diane Warren, Canadian singer Paul Anka and former X Factor winner Leona Lewis.
Bella received a standing ovation from some members of the audience, before Simon stated: “Well done Bella. Great song choice.”
He later put her through to live shows after revealing he would be putting four contestants through instead of three.
Bella presented the Student Awards at Harlow College before finishing her course earlier this year.
The next episode of The X Factor airs on Saturday 13 October at 8:35pm.
