Disabled student defeats stereotyping

A HARLOW college student has spoken about the struggles he faces as a wheelchair user.

Level two media student Tom Speller, 18, of Harlow, suffers from Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalus, which affects his mobility.

He often feels underestimated and stereotyped because of his disabilities but he remains determined, and will soon be starting a supported internship to help kick-start his career in media.

Undeterred by judgemental people, Tom’s mantra is to surround himself with positive people.

Tom said: “I just don’t surround myself with negativity, I’ve got a good group of friends in college who help me a lot, and I’ve also got a good group of friends outside of college as well.”
