DIANE Janssen, a former actress, has dedicated her time to a theatre company that focuses on giving students the tools they need to make the best of their lives.
Diane established Bedazzle September 9 2006, with her business partner and husband Phil in Saffron Walden.
‘I ran my own little Bedazzle course at Harlow College for adults with additional needs for about 5 years. This is our second academic year working with the Supported Studies team.’ Dianne said.
Bedazzle has also made use of the Glassbox Theatre at Harlow College.
‘Its aim is to bring the benefits of the performing arts to as many people as possible: the benefits are very obvious in confidence, articulation and fun and socialising and keeping fit.
‘I really wanted to get these possibilities out to as many people as possible and we do a lot of work with disadvantaged people as well, students with additional needs, who maybe have not had the opportunity to access performing arts.’
Many students from Bedazzle have gone on to performing in established theatres. A young chap that joined in the very first term, got a twelve-month run in the West End in the London Palladium in the Sound of Music. The company also had another girl who spent a year in the West End in the Wizard of Oz.
‘For a small company, we do manage to have quite a few successes.’ Diane said. ‘For the future, we’re busy looking at establishing our own college that’s going to be integrated, the centre of excellence for the expressive arts for all abilities.’
Bedazzle will perform the Summer Showcase in the Glassbox June 21 2018.
