HARLOW Entrepreneurs Lee Jacobson and actor Harry Eden have recently won an award for their business – Secret Quote – which they launched just two months ago.
They were presented with ‘Best New Business’, at the Harlow Chamber of Commerce Business Awards Dinner, which took place at the Manor of Groves Hotel on October 5, 2017.
The accolade is an amazing achievement as Secret Quote only started operating in August 2017. The online marketing site was selected as winners by a panel of 12 business owners from the Harlow and District Chamber of Commerce.
Secret Quote is a website and online platform for businesses in the area to advertise and promote their products and offer special deals and promotions. Vouchers are down loaded from the website by customers who then can use these vouchers to gain discounts on goods and services including hotels and restaurants.
Lee explained: ‘People can get good deals from downloading vouchers, for example the Queens Head Pub, Old Harlow, had a 130 vouchers downloaded the day after we launched.’
With 44,000 followers online and 34,000 of these being on Facebook, the trophy winners created their own company in January of this year.
There are 11 different categories advertised within the website promoting 250 companies from Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford, Epping, Loughton and Ongar.
‘The key to the company’s success is that it is giving back control to the advertisers. Small businesses to larger entities can log into the site and control their own campaigns and offers,’ said Lee.
Lee, who was born in Harlow, met Harry five years ago and they haven’t looked back in their entrepreneurial ventures since.
A former Harlow College student, Lee said: I used to work in a factory and then I got a work placement at the college.
‘It turned my life around and I thought I can do this, and I have been spear heading several different commercial projects for the last 11 years now. One of which was a telecoms company with 15 staff from Harlow before I founded Secret Quote along with Harry.
‘I really want to give something back into the area I grew up in. I have now agreed a one-year partnership with Harlow College to give students work experience.
‘One student is starting on Monday, and there will be a different student coming to work here every week this will increase to three later on in the year. They will be involved in running the office, team building and social media projects, which I hope will be beneficial to us and them.’
